Move Up in Poll
Kearney, NE – The University of Nebraska at Kearney women's basketball team (7-0), one of 13 unbeaten teams remaining in Division II, continues to move up on in the USA Today/ESPN/WBCA Top 25 poll. In addition, UNK leads Division II in two statistical categories.
Now 7-0, the Lopers are ranked 10th in the nation, up two spots from last week and up five spots from the preseason edition of the poll. UNK received 401 points this week and are one of three teams from the North Central Region in the top 15. North Dakota is No. 3 and North Dakota State is ranked seventh.
With six players shooting over 50 percent from the field, its no surprise the Lopers team field goal percentage of 51.1 percent (212/415) leads the nation. UNK has two players that are shooting over 60 percent from the floor; starting point guard Beth Swift (60.0) and freshman reserve Heather Steffen (66.7). Steffen has the 10th highest percentage among individuals in Division II.
UNK, which led all of Division II last year in three-point percentage (45.8), is at it again. Thanks to Swift (61.3) and Steffen (54.5), the Lopers are making a Division II best 48.2 percent this year. Swift, who has made 19 of 31 three-point shots, ranks third in the nation in three point percentage.
UNK hosts Fort Lewis and New Mexico Highlands this weekend and then travels to Morningside College next Thursday.
