Kearney, NE — The University of Nebraska at Kearney basketball
team's remained unbeaten in the Health & Sports Center as the Lopers
swept Metro State Friday night. The No. 2 ranked women (18-0, 11-0 RMAC)

consecutive home court win. The men won their 10th straight by
getting past the NCAA Division II defending national champions, 76-58.
For the men (13-3, 9-2 RMAC), the win ended an eight-game losing
streak to Metro State. The last UNK win in the series came in 1998. The
men have also won 14 in a row in the Health & Sports Center, dating
back to last year. Metro State (12-4, 7-3 RMAC) saw its seven game winning
streak snapped.
In the contest, UNK shot 50 percent from the field and held Metro
to 35 percent in the 18-point victory. Metro came into the contest as the
top defensive team in the RMAC, holding opponents to 62.0 ppg.
Five Lopers were in double figures, led by sophomore forward Nick
Svehla with 17. Freshman forward Nick Branting grabbed a team-high 10
rebounds while Mike Gitt and Tanner Engel combined to tally 21 points off
the bench.
Metro got out to an 8-0 lead but the Lopers responded by going on a

The Lopers extended the lead to 15, 49-34, by the 15 minute mark of
the second half. The 'Runners came back, cutting the lead to six, 54-48,
on a three pointer by Lee Bethea wit just under nine minutes to go. UNK
scored the game's next seven points and was never seriously challenged
again.
Jody Hollins recorded a double double (13 points, 12 rebounds) off
the bench for Metro. Loper senior forward Nate Mohs, the team's leading
scorer (16.3), turned his right ankle late in the contest. UNK Athletic
Trainer Bill Murphy said it is a moderate sprain and that an X-ray will be
done tomorrow.

Reserves Heather Steffen (12 points) and Mamissa Mwenentanda (12 rebounds)
were strong off the bench.
The Lopers got out to a 10-2 lead and never looked back. Metro was
sunk early as they made only one of their first nine field goat attempts.
Michelle McArthur (13 points) was the only 'Runner in double figures.
UNK travels to Chadron State (Thursday) and Colorado Mines
(Saturday) next week. The women return home February 21st while
