Women's Basketball Advances to
RMAC Title Game

Lopers Out Rebound UCCS By 20

Denver, CO For the fifth time in six years, the University of Nebraska at Kearney women's basketball team has made the RMAC Tournament finals.  The 5th-ranked Lopers improved to 26-2 with a 74-52 win over Colorado-Colorado Springs Friday afternoon in the semifinals.

Senior center Becky Schroeder scored 20 to pace the Loper attack.  UNK, which never trailed in the game, shot 64 percent in the second half and dominated the 5th-seeded Mountain Lions (16-11) 50-30 on the glass.  The Lopers also grabbed 19 offensive rebounds.

UNK has now won eight straight games in the RMAC Tournament.  They will play Chadron State or Mesa State in the finals tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m. CST.  The Lopers have won four of the past five tourney titles, including the past two.

"I really like our defensive effort today," Amy Stephens said. "We wanted to make someone other than their top two players beat us."

UCCS' Corrissa Johnson and Heidi Koskovick combined for 55 points in a first round win over Regis.  Today, UNK held them to 15 points on a combined 5 of 13 shooting.

UNK got out to an 8-0 lead and didn't allow the Lions to score until 15:55.  Despite shooting 35 percent in the first half, UNK led 31-18 at the intermission.

The Lopers extended their lead to 18 points, 43-25, early in the second half and the Lions never seriously threatened again.

Anny Burdorf came off the bench to score 14 points, her fifth straight game in double figures.  Allison Kruger had 12 points and eight rebounds while Mamissa Mwenentanda was close to a double double (nine points, eight rebounds).
