Schedule Announced
Lopers to play Colorado in Exhibition
Kearney, NE To begin its 2000-01 season, the University of Nebraska at Kearney women's basketball team will play an exhibition game at the University of Colorado.
UNK is taking advantage of a new NCAA rule that allows Division II teams (men and women) to play Division I opponents in exhibition contests.
The Lopers will meet the Buffaloes November 2nd in Boulder at 8:00 p.m. CST. That will be the only scrimmage for UNK as the team begins its season November 17th at the Minnesota State Tournament in Mankato. Pairings for that tournament have yet to be announced.
"We're looking forward to playing a top notch Division I team like Colorado," said head coach Amy Stephens. "It should be a great environment for our players to compete in and gives us an opportunity to see where our team is at early in the season."
Other highlights of the schedule include home dates with rival Nebraska-Omaha (December 2nd) and a possible matchup with Northern State in the UNK Invitational. The Wolves are the last team to beat the Lopers in the Health & Sports Center (Jan. 27, 1995). If UNK, which is on a 72-game home court winning streak, wins all of its home games, including a first-round RMAC Tournament game, the team will break the NCAA Division II record for consecutive home wins (85, West Texas & M).
The Lopers return three starters from last year's 24-6 RMAC Championship team. UNK has advanced to five straight NCAA Tournaments and won at least 24 games since 1995.Contact:
