Burdorf, Svehla Earn Academic Honor

            Kearney, NE – Two of the best players on the Nebraska-Kearney basketball teams have been rewarded for the good work in the classroom. Senior guard Anny Burdorf and junior forward Nick Svehla have been named second-team Verizon College Division Academic All-District VII as selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).

            Student-athletes from NCAA Division II and III schools make up the team. District VII includes schools in Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Colorado, Missouri, Montana and the Dakotas.

            Burdorf, from Emmetsburg, Ia., holds a perfect 4.00 GPA as a Elementary Education major. The Lopers top player of the bench the past three years, she is currently averaging 8.0 points and 1.8 assists per game. One of the best three point shooters in school history, Burdorf needs 28 more points to reach 900 for her career.

            The RMAC Preseason Player of the Year, Svehla currently carries a 3.53 GPA as a Mathematics Education major. The Omaha native has some of the best numbers in the RMAC, averaging 17.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. He already ranks 16th on the UNK career scoring list (1,205) and is leading the team in points and rebounds for the second straight year.

            UNK plays tonight at Colorado School of Mines and then Saturday at Chadron State.
