Loper Women Continue To Roll,
Win 11^th Straight

Dominating Second Half Sparks Route of Cougars

            Kearney, NE - The Nebraska-Kearney women's basketball team outscored the Cougars of Colorado Christian (7-10, 2-8 RMAC) 50-16 in the second half en route to an 87-44 win. With the victory, the Lopers picked up their 11^th straight victory to improve their record to 15-3, 10-0 RMAC.

            The Lopers quickly jumped out to a 29-16 first half lead. Some cold shooting from the field allowed the Cougars back into the game and an 8-0 CCU run made the score 29-24. UNK recaptured the momentum going into half time as junior Heather Steffen hit a jumper as time expired to give the Lopers a 37-28 lead at the break. Junior Allison Krueger led all Loper scorers in the first half with 14 points.

            The Lopers used a strong outing from the bench to increase their lead in the second half.  "I 'm really pleased with the production off our bench.  I believe it is important to have a solid bench to help our team be successful", UNK head coach Carol Russell said. 

            At the 8:45 mark, freshman Nicole Gruntorad came off the bench to nail back-to-back three pointers to give the Lopers a 68-37 lead.  Gruntorad finished the game with 12 points and five rebounds.  From then on, the Lopers never looked back in the 43-point victory. Kruger finished with a game high 27 points and 10 rebounds, her third double-double in the past five games.  Freshman Kalee Modlin added 17 points and eight rebounds while freshman Anne Manning added 10 points off the bench.

            CCU was led by Taylor Long with 15 points.

            The Lopers shoot for their 12^th straight victory as they are back in action tomorrow night to face Colorado Mines at 6:00 p.m.
