Women’s Basketball Shuts down Adams

UNK Beats Grizzlies by 27

            Kearney, NE – The Nebraska-Kearney women’s basketball team held Adams State to 22 percent shooting from the floor to whip the Grizzlies, 67-40, Friday night in Alamosa, Colo.

            UNK (10-2, 4-0 RMAC) runs its win streak to eight games while Adams fall to 4-7 (1-3 RMAC).  The Lopers are now 12-0 all-time against Adams State.

            UNK, which ranks second in the league in scoring defense (60.3), held Adams scoreless for the first 9:47 of the game. Adams was only 6 of 36 from the floor in the first half (16.7) and weren’t much better in the second half (8 of 28). Eight of Adams’ 14 field goals for the game came from behind the three point line.

            With Adams unable to score, the Lopers jetted out to a 25-2 lead and never looked back. The blue and gold did have 23 turnovers in the contest but shot 56.0 percent from the floor and out rebounded Adams, 49-25.

            Sophomore center Kalee Modlin led the way with 15 points on 7 of 10 shooting while senior Allison Kruger had 11 rebounds and six points. Sophomore Anne Manning, in her first career start, had 11 points on 5 of 8 shooting.

            Also, senior Heather Steffen (eight points) is now just one point shy of 1,000 for her career. She will become just the 13th player in school history to reach that milestone.

            Alesha Anderson led Adams with 11 points.

            UNK plays at Fort Lewis tomorrow night.
