Women's Basketball Has Two All-AmericansTwo Iowans Honored Kearney, NE – For the first time in school history, the Nebraska-Kearney women's basketball team has two All-Americans in the same season. Senior forward Allison Kruger (Paullina, Ia.) and sophomore center Kalee Modlin (Knoxville, Ia.) were both named to the Division II Bulletin's All-American team yesterday. (Division II Bulletin's Press Release - pdf format) Kruger, a two-time RMAC Player of the Year, earned third-team honors. She was the only RMAC player to make one of the publication's first four All-American teams. Moldin was one of 33 players to earn honorable mention All-American honors. Fort Lewis junior center Amy Mohr was the other RMAC player to join Modlin on this team. Kruger, who was a Kodak/WBCA honorable mention All-American last year, joins Darcy Stracke (1998-99) as the only Lopers to be named All-American twice in a career. Despite chronic foot problems, Kruger ranked second on the Lopers in points (12.9) and blocks (32) and third in rebounds (6.8) this year. She finished her career tied for second on the UNK scoring list (1,682). Modlin, who missed three games during the year due to a back injury, led UNK in points (17.6), rebounds (7.9) and blocks (34). The MVP of the RMAC Tournament, she has scored 931 points, grabbed 381 rebounds and swatted 56 shots in 58 career games. Besides Stracke, other Lopers to earn All-American honors include Beth Swift (2002), Ginger Keller (1994) and LaNell Cox (1987). UNK went 25-6 this past season, winning its seventh RMAC title and making the NCAA Tournament for the ninth straight year. |
