Manning Leads Lopers Over WayneLopers Back to Winning Ways
Kearney, Neb. – North Platte sophomore forward Anne Manning came off the bench to lead the 25th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney women’s basketball team to a 71-50 win at Wayne State Tuesday night. The Lopers improve to 3-2 while the Wildcats fall to 2-3.
UNK held just a 29-26 lead at the half but shot 64.0 percent in the second half (16 of 25) while holding the home team to 28.1 percent (9 of 32).
The Lopers scored the first 12 points of the second half, as Wayne didn’t get on the scoreboard until there was 12:24 to go. By that time, UNK held a 15 point lead and the ‘Cats never got the Loper lead under 10 points the rest of the night.
In 20 minutes, Manning made six of eight shots to finish with 14 points. Scoring 10 of her points after the break, she also grabbed six rebounds, including four offensive. On the year, the lefty is second on the team in scoring at 11.4 per game while shooting 67.7 percent from the floor
Colorado junior Amber Whitlock was strong off the bench as well, scoring 12 points and making all five shots she took from the field in 16 minutes of work.
Among the starters, Iowa sophomore center Kalee Modlin grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds and tallied 11 points, her second straight double double.
Kari Belak, with 13 points, was the Wildcats leading scorer. Freshman Allison Steffen, younger sister of Loper senior Heather, had 10 points and two rebounds. The older Steffen had eight rebounds, six points and two steals for the blue and gold.
UNK is off until next Tuesday when Minnesota State-Moorhead comes to town |
