Women’s Basketball Adds Guard

Colorado Native

Kearney, NE – Amber Whitlock, a 5’6” point guard, will transfer to Nebraska-Kearney and have two years of eligibility remaining, it was announced today by head coach Carol Russell.

             “I’m excited to have Amber join our team. She brings great tenacity to the defensive end that will spark our transition game. She also is a great floor leader who looks to push the ball,”

            Russell said. “In addition, Amber is a great person that we’re happy to have join our Loper family.”

5’6” point guard

            A native of Stoneham, Colo., Whitlock spent this past season at Northeastern J.C. in Sterling, Colo. As a freshman, she played at Northern Colorado. 

            This past year for the Plainswomen, Whitlock averaged around 10 points, four assists and 2.5 steals per game while shooting 41 percent from the three-point line. Ranking in the region’s top10 in assists and steals per game, Whitlock’s play helped Northeastern win the south sub-region championship and post a 16-15 record.

            At UNC during the 2001-02 season, Whitlock was part of a team that wen 14-13 and posted a 10-8 mark in the North Central Conference. Playing in all 27 games, she averaged 12 minutes a night and averaged 2.5 points, 1.3 assists and 1.1 rebounds per game.

            At Prairie High School, Whitlock set school records for three pointers made in a game and a career and free throw percentage in a season. As a senior, she was named the Class A state tournament MVP after leading Prairie to the state title.   

            UNK went 25-6 this past year, winning its sixth RMAC title and make the NCAA Tournament for the eighth straight year.
