Women Stop Streak

Four Starters in Double Figures

Kearney, Neb. –   Four starters were in double figures to lead the Nebraska-Kearney women's basketball team to an 81-67 win at Colorado Christian Friday night in suburban Denver.

With the win, UNK (10-10, 8-4 RMAC) stops a four-game RMAC losing skid. The Cougars fall to 3-17 on the year (2-11 RMAC) and have now dropped eight straight.

The Lopers led from start to finish but didn't pull away from the Cougs until late in the first half.

A bucket by  junior center Kalee Modlin (Knoxville, Ia.) gave UNK a 14-point lead, 43-29, with just over two minutes left in the half.  CCU scored the final five points of the half but they wouldn't get any closer then nine points the rest of the night.

Modlin began the final 20 minutes by making four straight shots and then Leigh sophomore Liz Fischer made three free throws to open up a 16-point lead, 54-38.

UNK held CCU to 35 percent shooting from the field while making 52 percent of its own shots. The Lopers also were 13 of 15 at the line.

Modlin finished the night 9 of 14 from the field, to go along with six rebounds and two steals. Senior guard Amber Whitlock (Stoneham, Colo.) added 13 points on 6 of 10 shooting while Fischer and Omaha freshman Amy Mathis each chipped in with 11 points a piece.

Off the bench, Lexington junior Erin Jones had seven points and four boards in 17 minutes.

Like UNK, Christian had four starters in double digits with freshman Sara Davis (15 points, 10 rebounds) leading the way

UNK plays a big game at Colorado Mines Saturday night.
