Threes Fall for Women's Basketball

Lopers Get Key Win

Kearney, Neb. –   The Nebraska-Kearney women's basketball team made a season-high 10 three pointers and junior Kalee Modlin tied her season-high of 19 points as the Lopers downed Fort Lewis, 74-60, Saturday night at the Health & Sports Center.

In the battle of the preseason favorites in the RMAC, UNK remains perfect in league play (5-0) while getting over .500 (7-6) for the second time this year. FLC is now below .500 (6-7, 2-3 RMAC) on the year.

UNK, winners of six straight, came into the game averaging just over three made triples per game with its season best effort being five.

The Lopers were 6 of 13 from behind the arc in the first 20 minutes to get out to a 36-27 halftime edge. The lead could've been bigger but FLC closed the half on a 8-0 run.

The 'Hawks were down by just a 38-32 count two minutes into the second half but senior Amy Mohr, the team's leading scorer and rebounder, was called for her fourth foul soon after.

UNK promptly went on a 12-0 run, capped by two free throws from Leigh sophomore Liz Fischer, to get the lead to 18 points, 50-32.

FLC wouldn't get closer then nine points the rest of the way.

Modlin was 8 of 15 from the field, including a 2 of 3 effort from the three point line. She also added a team-high nine rebounds.

A night after scoring a career-high 17 points, Lexington junior Erin Jones tallied 16 points on 5 of 8 shooting from the field. She hit two threes and was one of six different Lopers to make at least one triple in the contest.

Fischer (12) was in double figures for the fourth time this year while Omaha freshman Amy Mathis (eight rebounds, five points) helped UNK out board FLC, 38-31.

Amie Moulton led FLC with 17 points while Mohr played well late, finishing with 15 points and seven rebounds.

UNK plays at New Mexico Highlands and Colo.-Colo. Springs next weekend.
