Kearney, Neb. –   The Nebraska-Kearney women's basketball team forced 36 turnovers and had a big second half in a 70-46 rout of Upper Iowa Tuesday night at the Health & Sports Center.

UNK (5-6) has won four straight while the Peacocks (4-11) lost to an RMAC team for the second straight night. Colorado School of Mines beat UIU, 67-40, Monday night.

Despite 16 first half turnovers and 29.6 percent shooting from the field, the Peacocks trailed by just a 27-21 count at the break.

A very patient UIU milked the clock on every offensive possession and managed to out rebound UNK for the game, 42-27. The Peacocks, who are in the process of moving from Division III to Division II, had eight of its 10 second chance points in the first 20 minutes.

A 13-6 run soon followed and the Lopers led by 18 points, 50-32, with just over nine minutes remaining.

The Lopers had 24 steals tonight, three shy of the school team record. Lincoln freshman Melissa Hinkley led the theft department with eight swipes, three shy of the Loper single game mark (Julie Volquardson, 1985).

Junior center Kalee Modlin (Knoxville, Ia.) led the offense with 16 points on 8 of 15 shooting from the floor. With the effort, she moves past Becky Schroeder ('01) into 13th place on the UNK scoring list (1,086 points).

Pleasanton senior center Jenny Brown, in her home debut, came off the bench to have 11 points on 5 of 7 shooting.

In addition to her eight steals, Hinkley had nine points, five rebounds and three assists in 21 minutes.

Christa Hammel led UIU with 14 rebounds (eight offensive) and seven points.
