Women’s Basketball Preseason No. 10

Modlin Cited as Among Nation’s Best

            Kearney, NE – The Nebraska-Kearney women’s basketball team is ranked 10th in the Division II Bulletin’s Preseason Top 25 poll.

            The Lopers are the second highest ranked team from the North Central Region in the poll, trailing only North Dakota (No. 7).

            Also in the poll from the region are Concordia-St. Paul (No. 12) and South Dakota (No. 13).

            Defending national champion California U. of Pennsylvania is ranked No. 1 with Drury, Mo., second.

            In the magazine’s preview of the RMAC, UNK is picked to win the East Division, followed by Regis and Fort Hays State.

            Fort Lewis is picked to win the West with Colorado State-Pueblo second and Mesa State third.

            Individually, FLC senior center Amy Mohr is the Bulletin’s Preseason Player of the Year in the RMAC.

            Junior center Kalee Modlin (Knoxville, Ia.), who led UNK in scoring (17.6) and rebounding last year (7.9), is a preseason honorable mention All-American selection. 

            Others from the region to make the preseason team include Mohr, center Kristi Boese (North Dakota), forward Lindsey Deitz (Minnesota-Duluth) and guard Jennifer Pozzani (Concordia).

            UNK returns two starters from last year’s 25-6 team. The Lopers begin its season Halloween with an exhibition game at Nebraska.
