Three Join Women’s BasketballElm Creek Native Among Newcomers Kearney, Neb. – Nebraska-Kearney women’s basketball coach Carol Russell announced today that Lindsey Eggleston, Jade Meads and Kassi Schuppe (shoe-pee) have signed national letters of intent to play for the Lopers. Eggleston is a 6-0 forward from Buena Vista, Colo., Meads is a 5-9 guard from Elm Creek and Shuppe is a 5-6 point guard who hails from Iliff, Colo. “I’m very excited about this recruiting class. These young ladies bring tremendous talent and athleticism to our program. They are strong students and great people who exemplify the qualities we look for in players that join our program,” Russell said. Eggleston will soon begin her fourth year as a starter for the Buena Vista High Demons. She is a three-time team MVP who earned first-team All-State honors from the Rocky Mountain News last year. As a junior, Eggleston was nominated for Colorado’s “Miss Basketball 3A” award. Meads is one of the most decorated athletes to ever come out of Elm Creek. In 2003-04, she averaged a double double per game (19.3 points & 10.7 rebounds) and led the Buffaloes to a 24-2 record and runner up finish in the state tournament. Subsequently, she was named first-team All-State, for the second straight year, by numerous outlets. She holds five school records, including points in a season (502) and in a single game (37). This past summer, Meads played on the prestigious Daubert Pinnacle Nebraska team that won the Miss Basketball Showcase. She also led the Buffaloes volleyball team to its first state tourney appearance in five years in 2003 while also making the state track meet as a member of the 1600 and 3200 relay teams. Shuppe will play at Sterling High School this winter after starring at Caliche High School. The point guard has already earned All-State and All-Conference recognition so far in her prep career. This past summer as a member of the WYCO Pride team, she traveled to New Orleans, Memphis and played at the Miss Basketball Tournament at UNK. Off the court, Shuppe carries a 4.0 cumulative grade point average and was ranked first in her class at Caliche. UNK has two seniors, center Jenny Brown and point guard Amber Whitlock, on its roster this year. The Lopers begin its 2004-05 season Monday night when UNO visits the Health & Sports Center. |
