Basketball Schedules ReleasedTough Non-RMAC Slate for Lopers Kearney, NE – The Nebraska-Kearney basketball teams will have some challenging non-conference games for the 2004-05 season. In addition, UNK is the “lone wolf” in the RMAC this year, meaning the team doesn’t have a travel partner and all of its RMAC opponents will not have a game the night before it plays UNK. On the men’s side, UNK begins the regular season November 15th with a home tilt against in-state rival UNO. The Mavs went 22-8 last season and won the North Central Conference. The Lopers then travel to North Dakota November 27th, the first road game against a NCC team, other than UNO, in a decade. That tough contest is followed by a road game at Wayne State Nov. 30th. UNK has five non-RMAC games at home, highlighted by a rematch with Wayne in February. Before the regular season tips off, UNK will head to Lincoln to take on the ‘Huskers (Nov. 13th). That is the same day UNL plays at Oklahoma in football. To begin the 2001-02 season, the Lopers fell to UNL by just a 58-55 score. On the women’s side, UNK will have just two non-conference games at home; November 15th vs. UNO and January 4th vs. Upper Iowa, a school moving into Division II. The Lopers have road dates at perennial powerhouses North Dakota (Dec. 5th) and Missouri Western State (Nov. 27th) while also battling Northern Michigan and Eastern New Mexico in a tournament in Pueblo, Colo, in early November. Those four teams combined to go 83-35 (70.3 win percentage) in 2003-04. As in previous years, UNK will take on Nebraska (Halloween) and Creighton (Nov. 6th) in exhibition games. Last year, the Lopers led both the ‘Huskers and ‘Jays at the half. Finally, both teams close the regular season vs. Fort Hays State (Feb. 24/Thurs.) and Chadron State (Feb. 25/Fri.). UNK then hosts the RMAC Indoor Track & Field Championships that weekend. |
