Women's Golf Finishes Fall Season By Tying for 5th

Hehn Leads Lopers; 17 Pars & 2 Birdies

       

      Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's golf team shot a 36-hole total of 689 to tie for fifth at the Grizzly Invitational in Alamosa, Colo.

      The 11-team tournament was played at the par 71 Cattails Golf Course and hosted by Adams State. This was UNK's final tournament of the fall.

      After a 344 on Monday, the Lopers fired a 345 Tuesday. Chadron State (347/342) also was at a 689. West Texas A & M (620) edged nationally-ranked Western New Mexico (623) for the team title with Mesa State well back in third (652). 

      Junior Kami Hehn (Clear Lake, S.D.) led the team with a 162 (83-79). Her rounds included 17 pars and two birdies. Kearney freshman Jami Melson was just four strokes back (83-85) in a 19th place tie.

      West Texas saw Mollie Peterson beat teammate Stephanie Boldger in a playoff to earn medallist honors. Each shot a eight over par 150.

      Also for UNK, Central City senior Stacy Hartwig tied for 24th (172/87-85), Kearney junior Megan Marshall finished 43rd (189/93-96) and Grant freshman Emily Carlson came in 50th (196/91-105).

      Finally, Crofton senior Katie Zavadil played as a an individual and came in 40th place with a 185 (89-96).

      UNK will tee it up again in March 2008.  Pictured below is Hehn.
