Wrestling Tames MulesRanked Lopers Lead the Way
Kearney, NE – Nationally-ranked juniors Bryce Abbey and Adam Keiswetter won the final two matches of the night in dominating fashion to give the 12th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney wrestling team a 23-17 win over 14th-ranked Central Missouri State Friday night at the Health & Sports Center. UNK improves to 4-7 on the year while the Mules fall to 4-4. The True brothers, Matt and Pat, gave UNK a 7-0 lead right off the bat. Matt had a three-point victory at 141 lbs. and then Pat had a major decision win at 149 lbs. But, Central won three of the next four matches to take a 13-10 lead. Lyman sophomore Jeff Sylvester, ranked second in the nation at 197 lbs., trailed Seth Shippy 2-0 after the first period but came back to win 5-3 to tie things up at 13 a piece. CMSU took a four-point lead after nationally-ranked Willie McCowan won at heavyweight. Abbey gave the Lopers the lead for good with a pin at 125 lbs., his sixth of the year. Keiswetter came close to a pin at 133 lbs. but settled for a major decision victory. UNK hosts 10th-ranked Western State tomorrow night. |
