Abbey Gets Win at UCOUCO Too Much For Lopers Kearney, NE – Kansas junior Bryce Abbey, the nation's second ranked wrestler at 125 lbs., decisively beat 3rd-ranked Chris Saferite of Central Oklahoma, 7-2, Thursday night in Edmond, Okla. It would be the only win for 15th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney (6-10) as UCO beat the Lopers, 39-3. Earlier this year at the National Duals, UNK fell to UCO by a 26-15 score. This time around, UCO won several matches they lost the first time. Abbey, who didn't face Saferite the first time these two teams met, jumped out to a 4-1 after two periods thanks to a takedown and a reversal. His second takedown of the match gave him a four-point lead late in the third . At 141 lbs., Wade Bramlitt scored four points in the last 27 seconds to beat redshirt freshman Matt True. The Mitchell native beat Bramlitt, 12-10, in the first dual. Bramlitt broke an eight all tie with an escape and then added a takedown with five seconds left. The final point came on riding time. UNK also lost a tough one at 149 lbs. as Gering redshirt freshman Pat True lost by one point due to ridieing time. Second-ranked Jeff Sylvester also lost by a 3-2 score at 197 lbs. In the first dual, a then sixth-ranked Sylvester upset Kevin Lochner, 6-5. UNK finishes its dual season Tuesday night at Fort Hays State. |
