Huskers Defeat WrestlingLopers Minus Several Starters
Kearney, Neb. – The 3rd-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers blanked an injured Nebraska-Kearney wrestling team, 46-0, Monday night in Lincoln at the Nebraska Duals.
UNL improves to 6-0 while the Lopers, ranked 8th in Division II, fall to 0-1. Later tonight, the Huskers will dual Dana and Chadron State.
UNK was without half its starting lineup due to injury, including nationally-ranked Bryce Abbey (125 lbs.) and Adam Keiswetter (133 lbs.) Nearly all the hobbled Lopers will hopefully be back in action by mid to late January.
Redshirt freshman Trevor Charbonneau (Green, Kans.), replacing Abbey, more than held his own against Jason Powell, the top ranked wrestler in Division I at 125 lbs. Charbonneau trailed just 5-3 after the first period and was within striking distance the whole match.
Lyman sophomore Jeff Sylvester (197 lbs.), ranked 6th in the nation, also did well against a nationally ranked Husker. Against sophomore B.J. Padden, ranked 13th in Division I, Sylvester trailed by a 12-11 score late in the third period thanks to a take down. However, Padded responded with an escape and a take down to stave off the upset bid.
UNK is off until January 3rd when they will dual four teams in the Lonestar Duals in Texas |
