Mavericks Defeat WrestlingKeiswetter Upsets Waite Kearney, NE The 3rd-ranked University of Nebraska-Omaha had one pin and a major decision victory to beat their cross state rival 12th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney wrestling team, 26-15, Saturday night at the Health & Sports Center.UNO improves to 7-2 on the year while the Lopers drop to 5-9. UNO started the dual off with five consecutive wins. It was not until the Lopers second ranked Jeff Sylvester's pin that the Lopers finally put points on the scoreboard. Second ranked Bryce Abbey was able to boost the Lopers to 9 points with his defeat of Dustin Tovar. However, the match of the night was the upset of fifth ranked Mitch Waite by seventh ranked Adam Keiswetter in the 133-weight class. Keiswetter spent the entire first period taking shots however the first period ended scoreless. After Waite got and escape in the second period it was not long before Keiswetter put Waite to his back. After 42 seconds into the second period Keiswetter had upset fifth ranked Waite. However it was too late for the Lopers to hope for a comeback, for the Mavericks sealed their win after #1 ranked Les Sigman defeated junior Jared Jorgenson. UNK heads to Bacone College for their next contest on Wednesday. |
