Wrestling Wins Once in TexasLopers Still Short Handed Kearney, NE – The 8th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney wrestling team went 1-3 at the Lone Star Duals Saturday in Grand Prairie, Texas. The Lopers are now 1-4 on the year. UNK lost to Division I members Navy (30-3) and Utah Valley State (24-19), along with Wartburg College of Iowa, 33-6, the defending national champion in NCAA Division III. The Lopers got by Missouri Baptist, 27-21, for its first dual win of the year. The blue and gold were without starters Adam Keiswetter (133 lbs.) and Tyler Herman (157 lbs.) due to injury. Both should be back later this month. In the loss to UVSU, the Lopers won five matches but the Wolverines had two pins, a tech fall and a major decision among its five wins to claim the dual victory. UNK had a commanding 15-0 lead against Missouri Baptist but the Spartans got back into the match with three pins. The Lopers secured the dual win by winning at 184 and 197 lbs. The Lopers three nationally-ranked individuals – juniors Bryce Abbey (125 lbs.) and Aaron Dalton (165 lbs.) and sophomore Jeff Sylvester (197 lbs.) – each went 3-1 on the weekend. Abbey even picked up a victory at 133 lbs., by pin, against Missouri Baptist. Also for the Lopers, true freshman Tervel Dlagnev (184 lbs.) went 2-2 and picked up a key win in the victory over MBU. UNK hosts Adams State next Friday at the Health & Sports Center. |
