Wrestling Up to 8th in Poll

Four Lopers Ranked Individually

            Kearney, NE – The Nebraska-Kearney wrestling team is up two spots to 8th in the latest Wrestling Coaches Association Top 25 poll.

            UNK is tied with Augustana (S.D.) for eighth with 97 points each. The Lopers are the third highest ranked RMAC team behind Western State (5th/128) and Adams State (7th/112). 

            North Dakota State remains No. 1 with 158 points, followed closely by Central Oklahoma (154). UNO (139) is third with Pittsburgh-Johnstown 4th (131).

            Kansas junior Bryce Abbey, off to a 12-1 start, is up one spot to second at 125 lbs. Western State’s Jared Haberman is the top ranked individual at this weight class.

            Also up a slot is Kearney junior Adam Keiswetter at 133 lbs. He is now ranked fifth after winning seven of his first nine matches. Keiswetter is currently out with a leg injury but should be back in time for the dual season in January.

            Fremont junior Aaron Dalton, scheduled to return to the mat soon after missing the first three tournaments with injury, is sixth at 165 lbs. while Lyman sophomore Jeff Sylvester is still sixth at 197 lbs. He is off to an 11-1 start that includes eight pins.

            The blue and gold are home Saturday with the UNK Runza Loper Open, beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the Health & Sports Center.
