Wrestlers Honored

All-Americans Earn Academic Accolades

            Kearney, NE – For the second straight year, Nebraska-Kearney senior wrestlers Bryce Abbey and Adam Keiswetter have been named to the second-team Academic All-District VII At-Large team, as selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).

            Other Lopers to earn Academic All-District honors from CoSIDA this academic year include Erin Brosz (volleyball) and James Poynter (football). The track team will be announced shortly.

            Going 34-11 this year and placing fifth at the NCAA Championships, Abbey finished his career with 134 wins, the most in school history.

            He also is a three-time member of the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) All-Scholar team. The Goodland, Kans., native holds a 3.47 cumulative GPA as a graduate student in Exercise Science.  

            A three-time All-American, Keiswetter went 24-7 this year, placing third at the NCAA's at 133 lbs. He finished his career with 104 victories, including 61 by fall.

            He maintains a 3.69 cumulative GPA as a Health & Physical Education major.

            A total of 20 student-athletes make up the District VII team (10 first-team, 10 second-team) with Abbey and Keiswetter being two of the five wrestlers picked.

            Also on the second team was UNO sophomore wrestler Patrick Allibone. No one on the first team had a GPA lower then a 3.78.

            Student-athletes from NCAA Division II and III schools make up the team with District VII including schools in Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Colorado, Missouri, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota and North Dakota.

            Besides wrestling, 11 other sports are included in the “at-large” category, including golf, tennis and swimming.
