Wrestling Wins First DualLopers Beat CMSU in Kansas City Kearney, NE —The 3rd-ranked Nebraska-Kearney wrestling team had little trouble in beating No. 17 Central Missouri State, 29-9, Friday afternoon in Raytown, Mo. ...Click here for complete Results. The first dual of the year for UNK, the Mules fall to 1-3 with the loss. The blue and gold picked up the victory despite having nationally-ranked seniors Bryce Abbey (125 lbs.) and Adam Keiswetter (133 lbs.) on the sidelines due to minor injuires. Both will be back in January. Texas sophomore Tervel Dlagnev got things going for UNK by getting a pin to start the dual. Sophomore Trevor Charbonneau (Green, Kans.), filling in for Abbey, followed with a major decision and it was quickly 10-0 Lopers. However, the Mules won the next two bouts, getting narrow wins over sophomores Jeff Rutledge (Lincoln) and Matt True (Mitchell). UNK dropped only one of the remaining bouts to keep Central from thinking about an upset. Lyman junior Jeff Sylvester, ranked No. 1 in the nation at 197 lbs., was trailing with 30 seconds left in the third period but erupted for five points to win 6-2. A class earlier, Oklahoma sophomore Caleb Young upset 5th-ranked Kevin Grece, 9-6. The blue and gold is now off until January 2nd when it travels to rival Fort Hays State. |
