Three-time All-American Bryce Abbey (125 lbs.) and defending national champion Jeff Sylvester (197 lbs.) led the Gold squad while two-time All-American Adam Keiswetter and two-time national qualifier Aaron Dalton (165 lbs.) paced the Blue. Dalton, ranked fifth nationally, was pushed by sophomore Jon Haussserman (Norton, Kans.) but prevailed in the end, 2-1. Also pushed to the wire was Abbey, ranked second nationally. It took him an extra sessions to beat sophomore Trevor Charbonneau (Green, Kans.), 4-1. Last December in Lincoln vs. the ‘Huskers, Charbonneau lost by just a 7-4 score to Jason Powell, the eventual national champion in Division I. Sylvester, who is ranked No. 1 in his class, won by major decision over redshirt freshman Dan Dallemolle (Kotzebue, Alaska), 12-0. Also, Mitchell sophomore Matt True (141 lbs.), a national qualifier last winter, joined newcomer David Bossardet (157 lbs./Daytona Beach, Fla.) as Lopers with pins on the night. Finally, redshirt freshman Lewis Hyatt went 2-0 on the night at 157 lbs. The native of Canon City, Colo., spent last year in Kuwait and Iraq as a member of the Colorado National Guard. An MP (military police) in the Guard, Hyatt began his collegiate career at Colorado State-Pueblo. |
