Wrestling Finishes Third at Duals

UNK Holds Off Bronchos

            Kearney, Neb. –   The 4th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney wrestling team won the first four weight classes to beat 6th-ranked Central Oklahoma, 21-15, Saturday night in the third place match of the NWCA/Cliff Keen Duals in Cleveland, Ohio.

            UNK went 4-1 on the weekend to improve its dual record to 9-3. This is the second best finish for the Lopers at the Duals, trailing only the first place effort of two years ago.

            Earlier in the day, UNK lost to No. 1 UNO, 30-6, and edged No. 7 Pittsburgh-Johnstown, 21-16.

            In beating UCO for the second time in three years, UNK dominated the first four classes and then hung on for the win.

            Kansas sophomore Trevor Charbonneau (Green, Kans.), subbing for senior Bryce Abbey, recorded a 3-1 overtime win at 125 lbs.

            Abbey went 4-0 in the tournament, becoming UNK's all-time leader in wins with a 5-3 win over top ranked Dustin Tovar of UNO Saturday morning.

            Kearney senior Adam Keiswetter, who went 4-1 on the weekend, pinned 7th-ranked Jared Henning at 133 lbs. and then Mitchell sophomore Matt True, ranked fifth at 141 lbs., beat sixth ranked Wade Bramlitt, 3-2.

            UNK's lead went to 15-0 when sophomore Pat True beat Eric Johnson, 3-2 , at 149 lbs.

            Sophomore heavyweight Tervel Dlagnev (Arlington, Texas) stopped UCO from tying the match when he beat 4th-ranked JoshLeadingFox, 6-4.

            Dlangev, who went 4-1 on the weekend and leads UNK with 27 wins, scored four points at the end of the second period on a reverse and two-point near-fall to take a 6-2 lead. 

            UNK's tough road swing continues when its head to Colorado next weekend for three RMAC duals.
