Seven Wrestlers RankedLopers Down to Fourth Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney wrestling team now has seven different individuals ranked nationally, believed to be the most in the program's history at one time. The Wrestling Coaches Association national rankings were released yesterday afternoon, the first rankings since December 8th. Team wise, UNK dropped one spot to fourth as Ashland (Ohio) received 141 points with the Lopers at 140. North Central Conference members UNO (160) and Augustana (148) remained 1-2 in the land. Entering the rankings for the first time this year are sophomores Matt True (Mitchell) and Caleb Young (Perry, Okla.). True is fifth at 141 lbs. with Young eighth at 184 lbs. True is currently 19-8 with three falls. At the Runza UNK Open in early December, he was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler after winning the 141 lbs. title. In going 4-0, he beat then-No. 2 ranked Eli Domingiez (UNO) and then-No. 4 ranked R.C. LaHaye (Western State). Young, currently out of the lineup due to staff infection in his knee, has a 15-7 record. On December 18th, he upset then-No. 5 Kevin Grace of Central Missouri State, 9-6. Five other Lopers are ranked with their positions not changing. Still No. 1 in their class are Kearney senior Adam Keiswetter (133 lbs.) and Lyman junior Jeff Sylvester (197 lbs.). Keiswetter hasn't wrestled since Dec. 4th due a knee injury but could be back on the mat by next weekend. Kansas senior Bryce Abbey remains No. 2 at 125 lbs. while Fremont senior Aaron Dalton (165 lbs.) and Texas sophomore Tervel Dlagnev (Heavyweight) are fifth in their classes. UNK hosts Chadron State tonight at 7:00 p.m. The complete rankings can be found at the University of Central Oklahoma’s site (www.uco.edu). |
