Women Runners Continue Strong 2007Men's Team Finishes 16th
Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women’s cross country team continued its strong season by scoring 145 points to finish runner up in the 28-team Roy Griak Invitational today in Minneapolis, Minn. The 22nd annual event draws high school and collegiate teams from around the nation. On the women’s side, UNK had four of the top 50 finishers to trail only No. 5 Augustana (69). The Lopers, ranked 6th in the North Central Region, came in ahead of No. 14 North Dakota (4th in the region) and No. 17 Minnesota-Duluth (5th in the region), among others. With this effort, the Lopers should move into the national rankings in the coming weeks. Junior Kaci Lickteig (Dannebrog) completed in the course in 23:04 to lead the Lopers and finish seventh overall. Close behind was York senior Jacquelyn Dibbern in 10th place (23:17). Finally, Imperial senior Michelle Dill ran a 23:34 to finish 16th. Ramsay Kavan of South Dakota was the winner in 22:09. A young Loper men’s team tallied 381 points to finish 16th in a 25-team field. Minnesota State-Mankato (110) won with Minnesota-Duluth (132) second and Black Hills State third (155). Team captain and senior Justin Zahller led the way (26:57) with a 35th place effort. Kris Hunter of Manitoba (Canada) won in a time of 25:57. Also for UNK, Ogallala freshman Tanner Fruit came in 43rd place (27:05). Both Loper teams run in the Fort Hays State Open next Saturday.
