Women 3rd, Men 9th at 2007 RMAC MeetWomen Tie Best Ever Finish
Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney cross country teams finished third (women) and ninth (men) Saturday morning at the RMAC Championships in Durango, Colo. Fort Lewis College served as host institution for the 6k and 8k races. On the women’s side, the 13th-ranked Lopers scored 114 points to come in only behind No. 1 ranked Adams State (22) and No. 2 ranked Western State (50). Also in the 13-team race, Mesa State was fourth (127) and Colorado-Colorado Springs fifth (178). The only other UNK women’s team to crack the top three at an RMAC Championship was the 1994 Lopers (third). As she has much of the last two years, Dannebrog junior Kaci Lickteig paced UNK, running a 23:50.38 to finish ninth. Also cracking the top 25 was Imperial senior Michelle Dill (17th/24:54.22) and York senior Jacquelyn Dibbern (22nd/25:01.64). Brittany Somers (22:33.50) led a group of five Adams runners that came in the top seven. A young UNK men’s squad was a bit short handed and scored 251 points to come in ninth place out of 11 teams. As usual, Adams (33) and Western (44) went first and second with Colorado School of Mines third (72). Colorado senior Justin Zahller led UNK with a 39th place effort (28:42.06) with Malcolm sophomore Quinn Willet just one spot back (28:52.04). Adams’ Aaron Braun won the race in a time of 25:16.64. Top runners Tanner Fruit (Ogallala) and Thomas Neeman (Syrcause) didn't run due to injury. All RMAC teams are off next week in order to prepare for the North Central Region Championships Nov. 3rd.
