From the MIAA Legue Office in Kansas City
Kansas, City, Mo. - The MIAA has reprimanded the soccer officials that were officiating the Nebraska Kearney at Fort Hays State women's soccer game on Friday, September 16th.
Â
During the 73rd minute a foul was called on Fort Hays that resulted in penalty kick for Nebraska Kearney. The kick was initially successful but was disallowed due to a violation. Both were correct calls. The game was resumed at that point, while the rules state the UNK player (
Tori Weber) should have been allowed another penalty kick attempt and they were denied that penalty kick opportunity.
Â
"The additional kick opportunity could have resulted in a successful goal and could have impacted the final score," stated Commissioner Dr. Bob Boerigter. "The misapplication of this rule by the officiating team has resulted in the officiating team being issued a formal reprimand."
Â
This non-conference, in-region NCAA game between Fort Hays and Nebraska Kearney resulted in a 1-1 tie (2 OT). The result will remain. Â Â
The teams will face each other in MIAA regular season conference play on Friday, October 28th, at UNK.
