Kearney, Neb. - Former Nebraska-Kearney pitcher Joba Chamberlain is now a member of a World Series Championship team after the
New York Yankees beat the Philadelphia Phillies, 7-3, last night in New York City.
Chamberlain helped the Yanks beat the Phils in six games by throwing a scoreless inning of relief. Overall, the Lincoln native pitched three times against Philadelphia, earning a hold in the third game.
Throwing well into the high 90's, Chamberlain had 5 K's in just three innings of work in the series.
On Thursday (Nov. 6th), Chamberlain was featured on
Yahoo! Sports.
In 2004, the Lincoln Northeast graduate came to UNK and developed as a pitcher by winning three games and leading the Lopers in K's (49) and ERA (5.23). Named RMAC Pitcher of the Week after a stellar effort against Colorado School of Mines, Chamberlain later picked up wins against nationally-ranked squads from Mesa State and CSU-Pueblo.
At the end of the year, he was named honorable mention All-RMAC.
Chamberlain is the second Loper to earn a Wold Championships ring in one of the three major sports in America (MLB, NFL & NBA). Randy Rasmussen was a starting offensive linemen on the famous New York Jets Super Bowl winning team in 1969. He also was a member of the Jets 1968 AFL Championship team.
