Hiett Fourth Loper to be Named AFCA All-American

Kearney, Neb. - Nebraska-Kearney senior center Jack Hiett has been named to the 2009 AFCA (American Football Coaches Association) Division II All-American team.

The AFCA team is chosen by a panel of head coaches from around the nation. This All-American team consists only of a first-team. The AFCA has been selecting a D2 All-American team since 1945; it currently selects an All-American team in five divisions (Divisions I, I-AA, II, III and NAIA).

Hiett (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.) is only the fourth Loper to be selected to this team. The others are defensive back Mitch Johnson (1976), defensive linemen Doug Peterson (1978) and kicker Henrik Juul-Nielsen (2002).

One of eight national finalists for the 2009 Gene Upshaw Division II Linemen of the Year Award, Hiett started all 44 games in his UNK career, playing through some significant injuries.

This year, he was part of a veteran line that helped the Lopers run for 3,257 yards (250.5 avg.) and 32 TD's. In the passing game, Hiett and the line allowed just 14 sacks in 13 games as QB Jake Spitzlberger threw 24 TD's and averaged 174.5 ypg.

Off the field, Hiett maintains a 3.13 cumulative GPA as a Construction Management major.
