Women's Golf Finishes 2009 Sixth in Arizona

13-Team Field

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's golf team finished up its 2008-09 season by shooting a 36-hole total of 702 to place sixth at the RMAC Championships this weekend in Buckeye, Ariz.

     The 13-team tournament, hosted by Western New Mexico, featured all 10 schools in the RMAC that sponsor women's golf, plus NSIC (Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) members Upper Iowa, St. Cloud State and SW Minnesota State.

     UNK shot a 352 on Saturday and was at a 350 on Sunday. Upper Iowa easily outdistanced the field by firing a 630 (318-312) with Fort Hays State second (669) and Montana State-Billings third (684). MSUB is an affiliate member of the RMAC in women's golf.

     Individually, Hastings freshman Sara Wissing capped a strong first season by shooting a 170 (86-84) to tie for 15th place and lead the Loper cause. Upper Iowa had four of the first five finishers with Rochelle Schmidt earning medalist honors with an 11 over par 155.

     Also for UNK, Norfolk sophomore Thea Baum tied for 19th place (173/85-88), Kearney senior Megan Marshall tied for 24th (174/89-85), Norfolk freshman Nicole Erwin tied for 42nd (189/92-97) and Grant sophomore Emily Carlson tied for 44th (190/97-93).
