Wissing Wins Adams State Tournament

Lopers Jump Up 2 Spots, Finish 4th

Kearney, Neb. – Nebraska-Kearney sophomore Sara Wissing shot a 36-hole total of 153 to win the Grizzly Invitational Tuesday in Alamosa, Colo.

The two-day, nine team tournament was played at the par 71 Cattalis G.C. This was the Lopers first tournament of the 2009-10 season.

Wissing (Hastings), who qualified for NCAA Regionals last May, had rounds of 75 and 78. Over the two days, she had 24 pars and one birdie.  This is her second collegiate win; last spring, she placed first in dual with Fort Hays State.

Kristina Collins of Mesa State was two strokes behind Wissing with Kalli Stanhope of Montana State-Billings third (157).

As a team, UNK shot a 679 (339-340), good for a fourth place finish. The Lopers sat in sixth after day one but passed up Adams State and Western New Mexico on Tuesday.  Mesa State (637) won the tournament by 33 strokes.

Norfolk sophomore Nicole Erwin had UNK's second best finish, tying for 20th (172) with Grant junior Emily Carlson four strokes back in a 24th place tie.  Rounding out the Loper lineup were Beatrice sophomore Marni Stuart (T-31st/180) and Gretna freshman Kristen Goldenstein (36th/185).

UNK plays in the second RMAC fall tournament early next week in Pueblo, Colo.
